Colour (18-3224)?

Sparrow Avenue "Sparrow in Grass"
It's pretty much a given that my work under the Sparrow Avenue name is rather devoid of colour. That was no accident either. After years of children's book illustration and the use of limitless colour  in my paintings

and collages,
I was ready for a change. Not only had I ended that part of my working life but my kids had grown too and so there was less influence.

Lately, however, I've been thinking about colour again. And just out of curiousity, I decided to find out what's going on out there.

Radiant Orchid
Apparently this is the colour that is influencing fashion this year. Have you noticed it? This is the colour that exudes "confidence" and radiates "beguiling charm", let alone "magical warmth". Who knew?

It's not the easiest colour to work with and I've looked around and found some interesting suggestions. But for the most part, it would seem that Radiant Orchid is one of those colours that should be used sparingly in order to make an impact. You know: less-is-more-sort-of-thing.

So I'll let this incubate in my head for a while and see if it "comes out" in my work later this year.

  1. Hhmmmnnn yes it's a bit odd the colour of the year thing, I have to take notice of such things now, I don't think these colours percolate through for a year or two........if ever?? :)

    1. I've never been one to follow fashion. I don't like being told "what's in" or "what they're wearing" or what I "should" be doing or thinking.
But I do know that there are lots of people who do "follow" these directives...
