It's been really interesting watching what happens at the bird feeder. For years I've heard how aggressive House Sparrows are and that they basically bully the indigenous birds away. But that's not what I've been seeing. In fact it's the finches, the House Finches, in particular, that seem to take over. The chickadees haven't returned since that first day and the sparrows can get nowhere near the feeder.
As well, it seems to be the females that do the "scouting" and then the males come.
