Last week I was bemoaning the breakdown of one of my Singers. I thought it was the timing that got knocked off. But it turns out to be a broken (stripped) gear. Apparently, not an uncommon problem with the 400 Series (mine is 457). Found a wonderful site that goes into great detail about repairing it. Now all I need is a block of time and a new gear.
