Rockwood Ontario

Some forest walks are like entering into another time zone, usually for me, a pre-historic time zone. Trees growing out of rocks will certainly impress anyone about the tenacity of life.

The rocks at Rockwood are limestone and the roots of the trees penetrate the cracks. The oldest trees are cedars, many of which are 500 years old.

The White Pine has become a symbol for Ontario. Their silhouette is easily recognizable because of the works of Tom Thomson and the Group of 7.  In 1984  the White Pine was officially named as Ontario's tree.

It was a nice little break from all the work. Rest assured, the girls were with me and quite exhausted by the end of that day.

  2. I am just reading Richard Wagamese and that is one of the things he stresses; reconnecting with Mother Nature as often as we can. Rockwood looks like a magical place.
