Would that it could be true.
This is the result of a local issue that is quite worrisome on a larger scale considering all the cutbacks that have happened to cities throughout the world. Cut backs to education, health, public transit, environment...it goes on and on. Here in Toronto there is a deficit; what else is new? It is incredible, however, that the first things considered to go are always the arts and anything to do with women and/or children (Michelle Landsberg said it years ago: "women and children first"). So when Margaret Atwood chooses to rally, watch out. You can read more about here where it explains what is going on far better than I ever could.
