5 Points For Your Etsy

Sparrow Avenue, Beaver and 1947 Map of Canada Pillow
Part of the research I have been doing pertains to small business and in particular, Etsy. There are so many helpful articles on Etsy's sight, on-line and in libraries too. It can be added up in so many quick and easy steps but each of those steps requires some in-depth study as well.

Photography
This is stressed over and over. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words and the better the picture is, the better the story, one could assume. There are lots of clues as to how to take a good picture. Sharp focus is essential. No "noise" or clutter is definitely a key point. And don't forget about composition, lighting and personalizing your image.

Promote
There are so many different ways to promote a business. Do as many of them as you can! Business cards; post cards; freebies; advertising; linking your shop and/or items within social media, a blog; newsletters (to those who have accepted the receipt of your campaigns); shows and on and on.

Personable
Always maintain a happy and helpful approach to what you do. Remember that you are doing what you love and that will reflect in your work. No one wants to be around a grumpy person so when you are doing a show, for example, keep yourself busy, let people know that you care about what you do and that you are happy to talk to them about your work, how it's made, why you make it. You and your work become inseparable. People are buying not just your work but the energy and happiness that you bring to your work.

Persistent
You know the sayings: "Keep on trucking", "Don't give up the ship", "Never say die". I could probably go on and on. Basically, do what you love and believe in yourself.

Positive
Being positive is just another way of saying what I've been saying all along. It's way too easy to be negative. So many people live their lives with their cup half empty and that has a way of reflecting on their lives in a negative way. It takes practice to think positively, it can be an up hill slog, but just think of the view when you get there!!

  1. Reading your post was a great way to start the day today! It applies as much or more to everyday life as it does to the business of art. Thanks!
