My father, I remember when I was very small, built a book cabinet. I don't know if it was his own design but I remember it clearly. He was a collector of books (as was his father) and many of his "special" books were kept in the book cabinet. I have a number of these books now, his pride being "Birds of America".
Amongst these books was a set of encyclopedia, "The Books of Knowledge" and this particular set was from 1919. There were many illustrations that would keep us occupied for hours. These are two colour plates from that set.
I really enjoyed seeing these. I remember sitting for hours with "Larousse des animaux" which was a kind of dictionary of animals with illustrations. Thanks for bringing back some great memories!
